5 smartphone accessories to have

Whether you need some protection on more talk time, there's a smartphone accessory for you. Today's 5 focuses on those you should really look at getting to either protect your phone or complement its functionality.

Protect ya face

Those fragile touch screens are no fun to use when glass shards are embedded in your fingertips. Get a stick-on screen protector: they're great for preventing scratches, but also keep the glass from cutting you after a very serious knock shatters the display.

Get juiced

Battery life is a huge issue with newer phones. Try as it might, current battery technology  can't contend with the always-on social networking features, gaming, and 4G modems. You're lucky if you get more than a day from your phone, and that's why a juice pack or battery extender is a perfect add-on.

Phat beats

It's not just iPhones getting all the cool toys nowadays - even Androids and BlackBerry devices have access to rad gadgets and add-ons. Most notable are the new speaker docks arriving for Android devices. Perfect for getting your tunes out at a party.

Upgrade your ears

The standard headset that comes with your phone is probably not that great. In fact, it's bound to suck and break within a few months. Investing in a quality set of earphones - or combination earphone-and-mic headset - is not only an upgrade, it's essential.

Dock and drive

With voice dialling and navigation applications it makes a lot of sense to use your phone as a handsfree device. Mounting it in a windscreen cradle is a no-brainer, more so because they're not even that expensive to obtain or install.
